Wedding Florals with Twiggage & Bloom - Vancouver Wedding Photographer

This past spring I spent some time with Lexi, the owner of Twiggage & Bloom, a sustainable floral company based in beautiful Mission B.C. Lexi grows most of her flowers on her micro flower farm, and custom designs all her arrangements in her home based design studio.

Lexi talks about her love of not only florals, but all things from nature. Her biggest passion in her business is showing her clients that you can have locally grown flowers all year round, just sticking with the seasons.

One thing I didn't know is that a lot of flowers come from outside of Canada, and can already have pesticides, or are treated when they come into the country. Which complicates the disposal of the florals, and they likely end up in the garbage, rather than being composted or re purposed. Sustainability is a big part of Lexi's business plan, and her goal is to help educate couples on where their florals come from, and where they end up after the wedding.

Planning out your wedding florals takes some major preparation. Lexi recommends you book your your florist about a year in advance, especially if you want to have custom flower grown for your wedding!

YES, you can request flowers to be grown specifically for your wedding day!

Florals add a unique element to your wedding day, they bring nature inside, they add the most beautiful scent, and they ground your will your walking down the isle. You have something to hold onto, or something to liven up your suite lapel! A wedding with out florals or greenery just isn't complete.

This many be the largest floral purchase of your life! But dang, it's going to be beautiful!

A few tips from your Florist

#1 - Make sure you research your florist much like any other wedding vendor, confirming that they are capable of creating what you have envisioned for your day. Most companies will have a gallery of pervious work, as well as their instagram feed, so make sure you check all their work out before booking them.

#2 - Be clear with your vision, and don't be afraid to ask for help! Because this is likely the largest floral purchase of your life, it's important to communicate all your ideas, and share your vision boards!

#3 - Splurge for the full service! It may come with a higher cost, but it's delivered and installed and carefully kept cool and ready to go! Lexi does offer an a la cart option, but if you're having a friend or family member pick up, PLEASE make sure they have an air conditioned car, and when they arrive at your wedding venue they stay in a cool dark place until it's time to get married! You don't want to spend all this money on flowers just to have them wilt and die before you walk down the isle.

#4 - Look into how your florals will be disposed of after you wedding day. Send them home with guests, take the time to compost them, hang them to dry (if your flower choice allows) or you can choose to have the arrangement broken down into smaller bunches and donated to hospice to bring joy to more people.

#5 - Don't be afraid to dream big! Your floral team will be so excited to create something unique for your wedding day!
